Fairlop Waters:
  • female Goosander present for the 3rd day
Gants Hill, Roll Gardens:
  • 1 Coal tit - Still Present
  • also: 8 Greenfinches, 7 Chaffinches, 3 Goldfinches, 7 House Sparrows, 5 Blue tits, 3 Great tits, 1 Robin, 7 Starlings, 1 Magpie, 1 Woodpigeon, 9 Feral Pigeons
Valentines Park:
  • quick run around the fish pond: 2 Mute Swan, Canada Geese, 2 Egpytian Geese (associating with the white headed Muscovy), 2 pr Shoveler, 6 Tufted Duck, pr Gadwall on the boating lake
  • Cormorant on long water
  • 17 Collared Doves on the island
  • Grey Wagtail on a floating log, (2nd on Cranbrook Cut, MC)
  • Jay in the wilderness
  • finch flock included about 20 Chaffinch, 7 Siskin, few Goldfinch and Greenfinch
  • Goldcrest singing near Bethel Avenue (in the fir tree in a front garden)
  • Mistle Thrush (DEH/Mike COndon)
  • 2 Kingfisher both fishing in the sectioned off bit of Cranbrook Cut (MCondon)
Wanstead Flats:
  • 07:00 - 10:45: Common Buzzard (07:30, slowly moving east along the south edge of the flats, unattended by crows), Kestrel, 2 m Sparrowhawk,
  • 9 Lapwing (north then west along Centre Road), 2 Snipe (broom fields),
  • 25 Goldfinch (22 in trees by Capel point, easily the largest flock I have seen on the flats or in the park), 12 Chaffinch, 14 Greenfinch,
  • 30 + Redwing (mostly north west), 4 Fieldfare, 20 + Blackbird, 12 + Song Thrush, 8 Mistle Thrush, not many Robin,
  • 800 + Starling (no particular direction but favouring west) + 200 on the deck,
  • c.100 Wood Pigeon (south),
  • Also: 2 Collared Dove, 2 Grey Heron, 3 Goldcrest (associated Tit flocks), 3 Skylark, 10 + Meadow Pipit, 3 Ring-necked Parakeet, m Teal, 3m & 2f Shoveler, Mute Swan cygnets are now getting moved on by their parents (NC).
