Fairlop Gravel Works, north side of Painters Road:
  • 5 Pochard, 5 Teal, 20 Gadwall, 25 Tufted Duck, Mallard, Coot, Moorhen
  • 2 juvenile Cormorants sitting on the tree on a small island
  • Little Grebe
Fairlop Gravel Works, south side of Painters Road:
  • 10+ Teal, Mallard, Tufted Duck, Canada Goose, Moorhen, Coot
  • 2 Grey Heron
  • 5 Snipe, 1 Jack Snipe, 2 Green Sandpiper, 100+ Lapwing
  • male Pheasent drinking from a pool of water.
  • A few Wood Pigeon, Feral Pigeons and Collared Doves totally outnumbered by a flock of over 60 Stock Doves on the rear field.
  • Skylark, 10 Meadow Pipit, up to 100 Linnet, 2 Pied Wagtail, 1 juvenile Wheatear
  • 2 Grey Wagtail together near the tunnel
  • Mixed flock of adult and juvenile Gulls including Black Headed Gull, Lesser Black Backed Gull, Common Gull, Herring Gulls.
  • Kingfisher fishing in the first pool, opposite the main gates.
  • party of Long Tailed Tits moving along the hedge.
  • 1 Goldfinch feeding alone
  • Increasing numbers of Starlings and Carrion Crows, Magpies and a Jay.
Fairlop Waters CP:
  • 14 Great Crested Grebes and a Little Grebe on the main lake
  • 1 Grey Heron and 1 Cormorant on the main lake, and 4 Cormorants (over)
  • Mute Swans, Canada Geese, Mallards, Coots, Moorhens, Tufted Ducks
  • 10-20 Lapwing on the Island
  • Pair of Gadwall on the Spit
  • 10 Linnet
  • Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Robin, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Wren
  • Green Woodpecker on Fairlop Plain
  • 20 Teal on the lagoon, with about 10 Moorhens
  • pair of Sparrowhawk circling high above the Plain, putting up distant passerines...
  • 10 more Stock Doves near the Stables
Fairlop, Farmland:
  • footpath 86m from Hainault Road to Billet Road
  • 2 male Pheasant feeding in the distance, near the cycle track
  • 2 Green Woodpeckers near the quarry
  • a flock of over 70, yes 70 Skylarks feeding together, put up by me, then settled again.

Wanstead Flats:

  • On migration: 530 Redwing, 31 Fieldfare, 415 Woodpigeon, 17 Stock Dove, 20 Chaffinch, 1 Siskin, 3 Linnet.
  • Also 1 Grey Wagtail, 14 Skylarks, 13 Meadow Pipit, 4 Reed Bunting (including at least one migrant in flight),
  • Goldcrest, Chiffchaff and Blackcap (singing briefly). (S Fisher)
