The woodlands in Claybury Park are a surviving remnant of Hainault Forest. The Park comprises these ancient woodland areas, plus grassland, and small ponds. Claybury Park has only recently been fully opened to the public and is well worth a visit. It is particulary good for woodland birds.
Resident all year: All three woodpeckers, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Goldcrest, Reed Bunting, Meadow Pipit. Tawny Owl, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, Jay, Coal Tit, Bullfinch, Goldfinch.
Winter: Fieldfare, Redwing, Siskin, Lesser Redpoll and occasionally Hawfinch, Brambling, Crossbill, Waxwing, Stonechat orYellowhammer
Passage: Wheatear, Whinchat, Yellow Wagtail, possible Nightingale, Lesser Whitethroat or Common Tern.
Summer: Whitethroat, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Hirundines.
Recent Rarities: Merlin, an escaped Goshawk (look out for jessies)
